October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

You certainly don't have to look far to see that something PINK is happening this month! Yes, it's breast cancer awareness month and it seems that people are walking, running, riding, coloring their hair pink and doing whatever they can to help raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research.

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer for women, affecting 1 in 8 women during their lifetime. In the U.S. and Canada this year, approximately 315,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed, and there will be over 45,000 deaths from the disease. Of these numbers, about 3,300 of the new cases will be men. Yes, men also get breast cancer.

As with any cancer, early diagnosis increases the chance of survival. This is a good time for a reminder - check your girls on a monthly basis, have your doctor check them annually, and if you haven't had your annual mammogram yet, book one this month.

More useful information and tips are available from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure website.

At The Gift MD, we are here to help build awareness for many causes, including Breast Cancer. We have a variety of pink ribbon designs on several different products including t-shirts, greeting cards, mugs, Christmas ornaments, tote bags, buttons, stickers... the list goes on!
